Tips for a high score

What is the Chrome Dino Game?

The Chrome Dino Game – also known as the T-Rex Game, Dino Run or the "no internet game" – is a hidden endless runner built into the Google Chrome browser. Chrome's team shipped it in 2014 as an easter egg for the "You are offline" page: a pixel-art Tyrannosaurus rex running through a desert, a joke about being "thrown back to prehistoric times" when the connection dies. The project's internal codename was Project Bolan, a tribute to Marc Bolan, frontman of the rock band T. Rex.

In Chrome the game hides behind the chrome://dino address. According to Google's Chrome team, a single run could theoretically last about 17 million years – roughly as long as the T. rex existed on Earth. On this page the very same game runs online: same sprites, same physics, same scoring – in Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge, with no download and no lost connection required.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play the Chrome Dino Game online without going offline?

Yes. This page runs the same T-Rex runner while your internet stays on – no need to disconnect or type chrome://dino. It works in any browser, on desktop and mobile.

How do I start the Dino Game?

Press the space bar on a computer or tap the dinosaur on a phone. After a crash, the same key or tap restarts the run instantly.

How do you duck in the Dino Game?

Press and hold the down arrow (↓). The T-Rex crouches under pterodactyls flying at head height; release the key to stand up again.

What is the highest score in the Dino Game?

The counter maxes out at 99,999 points and then rolls over to zero. Long before that, the game reaches its top speed and every run becomes a pure reaction test.

Does the Dino Game get faster?

Yes. The runner accelerates steadily until it hits its speed cap, pterodactyls join the cacti around 450 points, and the screen switches between day and night as your score grows.

Is my high score saved?

Yes. Dino Runner keeps your best result in your browser's local storage, so it survives page reloads and browser restarts on the same device.
